There’s something special about a spring morning wedding in New England, especially one that starts with gentle rain and ends with soft light and open skies. Jordan and Nic’s wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton, Massachusetts was the kind of day that unfolded slowly and beautifully, with space to breathe and enjoy every moment.
From emotional vows to thoughtful details and one of the best seasonal menus I’ve ever experienced, their wedding was a perfect example of how meaningful a smaller, well-paced celebration can be.
A Gentle Rain Gives Way to Soft Spring Light
The morning began with a light drizzle, but nobody was worried about a little rain. Just before we headed out for portraits, the rain cleared and the clouds thinned, letting sunlight filter through the trees. It couldn’t have been timed better.
We took portraits on Gibbet Hill’s iconic sloping lawn, with the barn in the distance and the landscape stretching out behind them. The setting alone is stunning, but Jordan and Nic made it even better. They were relaxed, present, and completely at ease together, which always makes for the best photos.
Simple, Thoughtful Details and Handmade Florals
The details throughout the day were elegant without feeling overdone. Everything felt intentional and personal, which is something I always notice and appreciate.
One of my favorite elements was the florals. Jordan designed all of them herself using flowers from Trader Joe’s. Soft whites and greens filled the space and paired beautifully with the natural wood tones of the barn and the fresh spring landscape outside. It was creative, personal, and proof that beautiful wedding details don’t need to be complicated.
A Seasonal Menu That Truly Stood Out
The food at The Barn at Gibbet Hill deserves its own moment. It was truly some of the best food I have ever tasted (no, seriously!) Every part of the menu felt thoughtful and rooted in the season. Fresh salads and local greens, a rich mac and cheese, and perfectly prepared chicken and beef dishes were the stars of the show (next to the bride and groom, of course!)
And the desserts did not disappoint. Cannolis, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a variety of other treats made dessert feel like an experience rather than a quick ending to dinner. Great food always elevates a wedding day, and this menu absolutely delivered.
A Relaxed Dessert Hour to Close the Day
Instead of a traditional dance party, Jordan and Nic chose to end their celebration with a relaxed dessert hour on the porch. It was such a refreshing approach and fit the tone of the day perfectly.
Guests gathered outside to enjoy dessert, conversation, and the view overlooking the lawn. Cornhole and oversized Jenga kept things fun and informal, while comfortable seating encouraged people to slow down and enjoy the moment. It was calm, joyful, and a really lovely way to wrap up a morning wedding.
